Info

Kroken Sauna is located right across the bathing dock along the canal at Mesnadammen - Kroken in Lillehammer. The canal is ice-free all year round and well-suited for outdoor swimming.

The area is a popular hiking and swimming spot near the town center, the ski stadium, and Lysgårdsbakken.

The saunas are equipped with wood-fired stoves and have a capacity of 12 (heated) and 6 (self-service) people.

Firewood can be found under the bench, and a bucket of water is ready for steaming.

Near the saunas, we have provided an outdoor changing cabin and a fire pit with seating areas.

Payment is made via Vipps or PayPal.

Fires can be lit for an additional cost of 100 NOK.

The saunas are booked for 2-3 hours, with the last ten minutes used for cleaning before the next group arrives.

Self-service sauna

When booking a self-service sauna, you are responsible for heating up the sauna yourself. This usually takes about an hour.

You are also responsible for cleaning the sauna after use. This will be explained in detail in a separate email upon booking.

Swimming and sauna use are at your own risk.

People with heart conditions, a history of heart attacks, or epilepsy are NOT advised to ice bathe.

Be cautious of occasional strong currents in the canal.

Swimming should be done with others.

In case a situation arises while swimming, it is a great advantage to have others present. Ice bathing is also a fantastic experience worth sharing with others.

Do not touch the stove/pipe when it is lit.

The pipe can sometimes become red-hot, so be careful around the stove.

Pay attention to fire safety when using the stove.

The stove is relatively small, and glowing embers may fall out. Use the coal shovel and brush to put them back in.

Remember to stay hydrated.

If you sit in the sauna for 2-3 hours, you sweat a lot. Make sure to drink plenty of water.

Take care of the surroundings.

The saunas are located in a trafficked hiking area. Be considerate of people passing by and the surroundings in general. That means taking your own trash with you and leaving the area as it was before you came.

Intoxication, noise, and littering in the area are not acceptable.

Cleaning

Regular cleaning and disinfection of the saunas are carried out between sessions.

Tips

Bring a towel and bathing shoes/sandals/slippers for swimming and the short walk between the sauna and the canal.
